NEW!! Nano and Micro-class chassis's developed for school and college robot swarm and gaming projects

Design and development process

ROBOTmaker are developing a range of Nano and Micro-class robot kits that will be suitable for any college or hobby project.

The chassis will be available as individual components or as a complete kits of parts supplied  bundled together with motor,  gearbox, wheels, tyres, screws, controllers, sensors, etc

ROBOTmaker can also create custom designs for your college robot swarm project or Nano/Micro-class competition robot. Pease contact support@robotmaker.co.uk if you would like to ROBOTmaker to send you a proposal.

To be be kept updated with the development and launch details,  just register your interest by sending an email to: chassis@robotmaker.co.uk and visit the Forum

Rapid design and development process of robot chassis

The design and development process starts by using traditional design techniques, such has hand sketches and rendered drawings. This step is carried out by the product designers and graphic artists. They really need to get the basic concepts in place before the detailed design can started.  Once the first conceptual ideas come into place,  the design team starts to evaluate the sketches and improve on the design further.

Design for manufacture

Before a product is launched, the product designers rigorously test all designs together with colleges and robot clubs.  Slight changes in the design can considerable reduce the manufacturing costs.

The final designs are entered into a 3D CAD modeling software, where engineering drawings are created. The 3D designs look similar to the model below:

Example of 3-D modeling:

Standard components can be reused in many designs by creating i-drop models. This rapid  development process enables a complete design to be completed in hours rather than months.

CNC Machining and Prototyping

Once the design complete, the CAD drawing (DXF format) is converted to G-code files and sent to the  CNC machine for machining.  The picture below shows multiple Nano-robot chassis being machined for a robot swarm project.
