Battery Solutions for Nano and Micro Sized Robots

Lithium Polymer Batteries (LiPo)

These are the best suited batteries for smaller robots as they are very small for the power they provide.

The main problem with LiPo batteries is that they are a potential hazard if you don't handle them correctly. I've added a few links below to videos that clearly illustrate what will happened to these batteries if they are not handled or charged correctly.

As we're uncertain about the implications and hazards associated with shipping these batteries and all potential legal issues related to this, we've decided not to include these in our product portfolio or kits at this point in time.

We propose looking in your local model shop or directly from the Internet such as the one from Micro Invent in the UK (www.microradiocontrol.co.uk)

The sizes that fit the nano chassis are Micro Invent LIP0170-P The specification is:

Normal Capacity - 170mAh
Max charge rate 170mA (1C)
Max Current 2.5A (15C)
Dimensions 25 x 20 x 6mm
Weight 5,5g

This size battery fits neatly in the Nano robot chassis

Some other very small LiPo Batteries
Lithium-Polymer cells = maximum energy density at minimum weight

Example: Kok145 - the energy gnome with only 3.5g!

Fast charging within 1 hour with 1 * C, High Discharge Current cont. & pulse self discharge rate (5%/ year)
flat discharge curve, no Memory Effect

The following company ships these batteries as packs of one (3.7V), two (7.4V)
or three cells (11.1V) with a bare PCB for easy soldering of your connector leads.

See what may happen to your battery  if you don't take care when charging or handle these LiPo batteries carefully
